Recently, Australian-based company Bellroy sent me one of their new Tokyo Totepacks to try out on some of my adventures. As I often find myself in somewhat harsh conditions when out photographing my chosen subjects, this bag had to withstand the various different elements that we find ourselves in.
The Tokyo Totepack is the latest addition to the vast collection of backpacks that Bellroy have on offer, and brings a new kind of versatility and reliability to their range. Being one of the biggest bags that they have on offer, it is no surprise that there is a ton of space to store all your belongings, which has been made even easier due to the many internal pockets. The quality of the inside of the bag is very impressive, offering a lot of padding to protect your belongings, with a separate 15" laptop sleeve also available.
I felt that it was only right that I gave this bag a run for its money when we went out in to the field, choosing a wet, foggy day in the woods to test it out. Firstly, I was really impressed by the comfort this bag offers when wearing it on long, tough hikes, with the shoulder straps being very padded, allowing you to not have any strain on your shoulders. For me, this is very important on those days when I might be carrying heavy equipment with me on a shoot, as I need to be as comfortable as possible with as little problems to focus on my photography. Secondly, and possibly more importantly, I was blown away by the way the bag stood up to the wet conditions that we faced. I had initially been quite apprehensive about the bags capabilities in wet weather as there wasn't a rain cover provided, but after reading that it had been made with water resistant fabrics, I wanted to make sure it would be good enough for the outdoors. After having the bag out in the rain on numerous occasions, it has superseded my expectations, and has given me peace of mind that my gear will be more than okay in the bag during bad weather.
Final Thoughts: The Tokyo Totepack has shown itself to be a very reliable and versatile backpack, that has withstood harsh conditions during its testing in the outdoors. I would definitely recommend this bag to anyone who is looking for a durable backpack that can be used for a variety of different things, from commuting to the office or hiking in the outdoors.
